At Armitage Primary School we take great pride in the provision that we make for pupils who have English as an additional language. We make sure that every child, who joins our school, has the chance to be partnered with a child who speaks the same language. We know how daunting it can be for parents and children when they start a new school, particularly when English is not their first language.
Our aim at Armitage is to teach these children the basics as quickly as possible in a warm, nurturing and purposeful environment. To do this, Armitage has a special classroom set up where new arrivals with limited or no English can learn and thrive. On the whole, children are able to reach a standard in English, where they can access lessons in their own classes within a term.
The impact of this approach has been outstanding and the children are making accelerated progress. Armitage are incredibly proud of their provision for children with little or no English and are pleased that these children are excelling in our care.
We have also put together several really useful website links to help your child:
